Behind the Camera

Part of the Modern Loneliness series, Behind the Camera explores the distance that can exist even in the presence of another person. The figure is seen and observed, yet remains emotionally separate from the person behind the lens. Drawing from the composition and restraint of Old Master portraiture, the work introduces a modern tension between being witnessed and being known. The looming shadow becomes a presence of its own, suggesting that proximity does not always relieve loneliness.
